How You Can Help the WA Water Alliance in 2026

If 2025 taught me anything, it was that it is completely unrealistic to think I could make much progress on my own. I think in general it was a pretty hard year to get things going, but it has helped me focus in on what it will take to get things going and be more specific about how everyone else can be part of it. 

In 2026, one goal is to SCALE UP the Water Supporters Community. Something I maybe haven't been so explicit on is the trajectory I see the Water Alliance taking and the role the Water Supporters plays in it. The Water Supporters is an essential part of getting the flow of this bottom-up, emergent, movement-and-eventually-organisation going. The idea is not to rely on crowdfunding and crowdsourcing forever, but it is, I think, the way to grow this organism in integrity, with the aliveness of the vision that came from the River that seeded it several years ago.

At the time of writing it is in metamorphosis - over the past couple of months I’ve been quietly re-orienting the Water Alliance and Water Supporters and attempting to clarify what’s sustainable, what’s truly impactful, and how this work can grow beyond me into something more collective and resilient. Expect a launch of a new platform (a dedicated website) and revamped network soon, along with different participation options.

In 2025 I found the modest amount of regular contributions and Water Supporters monthly meetups to be great in helping me keep on track, have some structure to work with and supply some warm moments of connection, which was definitely nurturing for me!

The energy with it did start to peter out towards the end of the year which lends me to think that it needs more of a community critical mass to keep it going and another look at the structure.

I've got a sense of direction for it, but I'd love this metamorphosis to be informed by feedback so I’ve created a short survey (5–7 minutes) to help me understand:

• What draws you to water and the Water Supporters community

• What aspects of water learning, connection and action interest you most

• How you might like to be involved in the coming year

• Whether you’d like to contribute skills or support in any way

In the survey I do ask about a variety of skills you might be able to contribute. Ones that I reckon would be especially important and helpful this year as we try to get some oomph into it would be marketing/social media, video/audio editing and anything to do with funding - sponsorships/grants/philanthropy.

This survey is particularly aimed at individuals wanting to get involved. Next sweep will be more targetted to organisations and government stakeholders. If that's you, stay tuned, or simply just reach out for a chat.
