WA Water Alliance Launch and Water is Love Film Screening Wrap-Up
May 10, 2025
Last Wednesday night, with the help of a whole bunch of amazing friends and supporters, we pulled off a fabulous evening, screening the film, Water is Love, and publicly launching the WA Water Alliance at the Naval Store in Freo, above the Derbarl Yerrigan/Swan River.
With the film’s emphasis on the role of water in climate and the hopeful, decentralised solutions that understanding provides, along with showing how water can guide us back to relationship with Earth and a more connected, caring way of being - it served as a wonderful spark for discussion, which we jumped into after the film.
Energy was high around the small tables for the discussion of the question, 'What about the film inspired or challenged you?' The old facilitator in me couldn't help but collect the sheets that were written on. Here are a few things that people said that stood out:
- The speed of regeneration that is possible and Earth's capacity to heal is hopeful
- We are not alone in this
- The multigenerational view and approach portrayed in the film was important to many
- Water is critical to songlines, and consciousness of Country
- We need this holistic approach in WA
- A bioregional, decentralised approach was seen as important, solutions coming from the people
After the vision for the Water Alliance being seeded in my mind several years ago, this was a long-awaited moment for me. It swelled my heart to see the evening come together so smoothly with help from a generous crew of supporters, and to feel the engagement and enthusiasm from everyone there.
It was the people that made the night, so thanks to all who came along and of course all the contributors.
